Our Story

Nestled on a hill overlooking the St. Croix River Valley, our 80-acre-vineyard is lined with panoramic views that will transport you to another place. Our roots here run deep. We’ve been part of the St. Croix community for generations and take immense pride in our area. Rustic Roots stands for a reflection on—and a reflection of—our heritage.

Wine can get a bad rap at times. It can come off as complicated, even intimidating. But we’re on a mission to change that. No overly-fancy descriptions. No pretense. Just approachable, flavor-forward, wines served in a comfortable, down-home environment.

Our History

Around 1990, a family built their home on the site of the original farmhouse. In the summer of 2019, Andrea and Greg Sandager, along with their son Howie, bought the 80 acres and began rennovating the property and converting it into a working vineyard with tasting room.

The garage was converted into our production facility by moving the building onto a newer, higher foundation to accommodate the tall wine tanks. The single family home was completely remodeled to serve as our tasting room. Then the surrounding fields were prepared for the vineyard plantings. The patios, landscaping, and Airstream Trailers were built by the crew from Abrahamson Nurseries across the street.

We opened for business on Labor Day weekend of 2020. The wine pavilion was added to better serve our customers in the summer of 2022.

Today all of our wines and cider are crafted on-site, primarily with our own and other local grapes, as well as a few out of state grapes to keep things exciting.

Our Staff

We’re proud to work with some of the most talented, curious, and hardworking people we’ve ever met. We hope you enjoy them as much as we do.
